Anti-wrinkle injection treatment at Base Aesthetic Clinic South Perth.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used to relax facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. The most common areas that can be treated are frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. A multitude of advanced areas in the lower face can also be addressed, such as gummy smiles, corners of the mouth and facial slimming.

Gone are the days of tell tale "frozen" faces and "spocking" eye brows. A more conservative mindset is crucial, as we move towards a more sophisticated approach to neurotoxins, resulting in natural and undetected look.

FAQs

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections involve the injection of a controlled neurotoxin into specific muscles to temporarily relax muscle contraction that is causing dynamic lines and wrinkles on the skin.

Which areas can be treated?

Anti-wrinkle injections can treat areas such as:

Crow's feet, Forehead lines, Frown ('glabellar') lines, Gummy smile, Dimply/ upturned chin, Lip/ smokers lines, Down turned mouth, Bunny lines, Neck Lines, Jawline (facial slimming).

Are results instant?

No, results are not instant. Results begin to show at day 4-5, with full effect at day 14.

How long do results last?

Most people get 3-4 months of relaxation from their anti-wrinkle treatment.

How long does the treatment take?

An initial consultation will be completed with all new clients, with all paperwork and consent forms completed. Consultation and approval will then be obtained by the supervising cosmetic doctor (face to face or via video conference call) for the treatment, and a prescription will be written up to cover the patient for 12 months worth of future treatments. Generally an initial appointment will take 30 minutes. All future treatments should only take around 10-15 minutes.

Does it hurt?

The treatment is very quick. The injections may sting a little however most people tolerate the treatment well. We can use topical anaesthesia and/or ice if needed.

Are there any side effects?

The injection may sting for a short while and in some cases can cause some temporary localised reactions. While every precaution will be taken to prevent any complication, and that complications from this procedure are rare, they can and sometimes do occur. These include but are not limited to;

  • Localised pain, redness and swelling at the injection site
  • Skin tightness and/ or tingling sensation at injection site
  • Itchy or aching forehead
  • Headaches (for up to 3-4 days post treatment)
  • Bruising
  • Localised numbness (rare)
  • Local muscle weakness in surrounding areas (Drooping of eyebrow, eyelid, mouth) (rare)
  • Lower eyelid bagginess (rare)

Who is not suitable for anti-wrinkle injections?

  • People who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying for a baby (including IVF)
  • People with muscular or neuromuscular conditions, including Bells Palsy.
  • People with particular autoimmune diseases (including MS, Sarcoidosis, Lupus etc)

Will I look frozen?

NO! We pride ourselves on keeping our patients looking fresh faced, and not over done! We generally treat patients conservatively, to minimise risks of any side effects associated with high doses and too much product. However, this means that a small minority of patients may require a follow-up “top-up” treatment or their initial treatment results may not last long enough. In this case we can adjust the amount for subsequent treatments to achieve the desired results. Injecting more is easy, correcting any untoward side effects can be difficult.
